چکیده

Mineral Fertilizers. It is considered to be the hall-mark of the good agriculturist that he aims not only to produce maximum crops, but to maintain the fertility of his soil unimpaired for the benefit of posterity. Both these ends were achieved in former times by the use of animal manures, by fallowing at regular intervals, and at a later date by the practice of crop rotation in conjunction with the growing of legumes and the use of manure. .

Influence of Recent Acidification on Soil Test Phosphorus and P Sorption

H ighbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) is adapted to soils with high organic matter and pH of 4.5-5.5. Coniferous sawdust is the blueberry industry standard soil amendment and mulch in the Pacific Northwest, USA. However, sawdust prices are increasing, and its availability is becoming limited. Therefore, many blueberry producers are interested in compost as an alternative to sawdust, whi...

Organic Fertilizers and Composts

Introduction Interest in organic production methods for vegetables continues to increase. Production practices for organic field production of vegetables have a long history, but practices to grow organic vegetable transplants in a spring greenhouse are poorly known. Organic fertilizers and composts are available but the efficacy and rates for use have not been evaluated. Experiments in the sum...

Nitrogen and Carbon Isotope Composition of Organic Fertilizers

Synthetic (e.g. urea) and organic fertilizers (e.g. compost) differed markedly in N isotope composition and the greater the difference between organic and synthetic fertilizer the more robust will be the differentiation of crops and vegetable grown under different farming systems. The objective of this study was to compare nitrogen and carbon isotope composition of organic fertilizers and manur...

Nitrate capture and slow release in biochar amended compost and soil

Slow release of nitrate by charred organic matter used as a soil amendment (i.e. biochar) was recently suggested as potential mechanism of nutrient delivery to plants which may explain some agronomic benefits of biochar. So far, isolated soil-aged and composted biochar particles were shown to release considerable amounts of nitrate only in extended (>1 h) extractions ("slow release"). In this s...

Effectiveness of Organic Wastes as Fertilizers and Amendments in Salt-Affected Soils

Excessive salt rate can adversely influence the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils, mainly in arid and semi-arid world regions. Therefore, salt-affected soils must be reclaimed to maintain satisfactory fertility levels for increasing food production. Different approaches have been suggested to solve these issues. This short review focuses on selected studies that have identi...
